Margaret Louise Lomas (nee Bowman)
Margaret Lomas / Maggie Pender
Born: 3 May 1877 in Holborn, London as Margaret Louise Bowman.
Died: Q3 1943 in Martley, Worcestershire.
Her father was a Science Lecturer (1881 census) but by 1891 she is listed in the census as an Actress.
She married Robert Lomas in 1896.
In an interview in The Era in 1910 Robert Lomas (Bob Pender) states that she was for six years under Mme Katti Lanner, a Viennese ballet dancer, choreographer, and ballet mistress who found fame in Germany and England.
In a post on the now defunct Fairground Heritage Trust forum [Entry No. 17], it was suggested that she was Ballet Master at the Folies Bergère in Paris. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to verify this.
Equally the Pender Troupe performed at a nightclub in New York called the Folies Bergère when it opened in 19111. This could be the source.
