It’s the 24th of August 1891 and John Carney is looking forward to marrying Mary Jane Guinnane in three days time.
John’s suit and wedding ring were being kept in the bedroom of his 11 year old future brother-in-law, Joseph Guinnane.
Unfortunately the suit and ring were discovered to be missing.
It turns out that Joseph took them both, along with a vest, he then pawned the suit and vest in a nearby pawn brokers!
Joseph was found the next day and taken home by two unnamed women.
I have no knowledge of what the outcome and whilst the newspaper entry was in the “Salford Borough Police Court” section, there is no mention of any penalty, it certainly wouldn’t do much to cement relationships between the two families.
