The following is a description: "A ghost show using a magic lantern to project images of ghosts, skeletons, and other macabre beings onto a screen was referred to as a "phantasmagoria" (a collection of ghosts). Loud explosions, thunderclaps and a smokey atomosphere (created with dry ice) added to the special effects. "

  1863 - Dressmaker [Marriage cert] 1881 - Actress [1881 Census] In the 1881 census they are sharing a sight with 3 families of Lomas -could very well be that they are her family. Couldn't sign her marriage certificate. McNair / Mackney / Wilton ================ In 2019 I had a moment when I questioned the connections and decided to revisit the whole tree to satisfy myself that I hadn't gone wrong:- Proving the Mackney / Mcnair links We start with Sara Ann Mackney because she was known to me. Sarah Ann Mackney Born 1881 as Wilton in Pendleton, Salford Father: Thomas Mackney Wilton (Comedian) Mother: Margaret Wilton nee Lomas She is their 10th child, 4 more to follow When Sarah Ann marries Arthur Henry Braham in 1905 she is Mackney, father is Thomas Mackney. 1881 Census she is 2 months old. With parents and siblings in caravan at Tommyfield. Father listed as Thomas M Wilton, mother Margaret. 1891 Census she is 10 years old, living with mother, Margaret, who is now a widow, and siblings. 1901 Census Never been able to find the family in 1901. So, we have a link to Thomas Mc N Wilton Thomas Mackney Wilton If we start with the 1881 census where we find Sarah Ann and the rest of the family. We know that Thomas is married to Margaret. They are together with Robert Lomas and his wife Elizabeth, who are running a travelling theatre troupe. This gives his surname as Wilton He says that he is 40 and born in Leeds If we look for a marriage for Thomas and Margaret, we find them in 1863 in Bradford. His father is listed as James Wilton (Bricklayer) and hers as Robert Lomas (Musician). This fits as his father (James McNair) was a bricklayer. He gives his name as Thomas Mackney Wilton, aged 25 and a wood turner. Her father is a musician at this point. Note: not done any work on her parents! So how did I go back from here? We need to find him in an earlier census. The closest is 1861, only 2 years 1861 Thomas Mc N Wilton - Wood Turner aged 20 [Occupation matches] He is living with his mother, Hannah Wilton who is unmarried. Also in the house is his brother Elijah. It is Elijah who will provide the common connection backwards owing to his somewhat unusual name. 1851 He is McNair and living with his father, James McNair, mother Hannah Wilton who is not married to James, but is his sister-in-law. Elijah is also there. 1841 He is McNair and living with his father. Mother is there as McNair.
