When I ordered a copy I was told that the details on the Cert that they had didn't match what I submitted. I questioned this - reply awaited 28/07/2022 I originally wrote to OPCS in 1994 and they couldn't find it then. Note that GRO Birth index for her daughter Mary lists her maiden name as Bigland.

  Based on what little information I had I decided to have a good search to try and find Eleanor. Could find no suitable entry for either Bigland or Robinson in GRO indexes. However, in the IGI there is a suitable baptism:- 14/01/1849 - Cartmel - Eleanor Robinson d/o Mary Robinson The date and place fit nicely as does the idea of no father. -------------------------------------------------- Her mother was Mary Robinson. Armed with this proceeded to look in the censuses. First stop was 1851 looking for Mary Robinson and baby Eleanor Didn't find Mary, but believe that I have found Eleanor with her grandparents. (Eleanor is given as Ellenor). ------------------------------------------------- There is only 1 potential William Bigland who could be her father: See William Bigland's notes 1872 Farm Servant [Marriage Certificate] Couldn't sign name on marriage certificate I had some doubts about the transcription of her marriage cert so contacted Ulverston Record Office who checked the entry for me whilst on the phone and confirmed that it is definitely Robinson - no doubts. Looking for birth: Checked GRO pages for 1848 - 1852 inclusive Looked for Eleanor Bigland - no likely candidate Looked for Eleanor Robinson - following possibilities:- 1848 OND Eleanor Robinson Ulverstone XXV 217* 1850 AMJ Eleanor Robinson Wigton XXV 216~ 1850 OND Eleanor Robinson Whitehaven XXV 174~ * Added to register between 2 other entries ~Wrong county really
